2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup
Officially, World Cup kayaking is coming to Phenix City and Columbus as part of several sanctioned International Canoe Federation events.
First of all, the 2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup will be held in town October 3rd-5th. Next, the 2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup Final will be October 7th-9th.
That’s two different events happening this fall featuring the area’s whitewater rapids on the Chattahoochee River.
Paddlers will compete in events such as the masters freestyle and the flatwater freestyle, for instance. Free concerts, children’s activities, music, food trucks and more will be happening along with the competitions.

2023 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships
Finally, World Cup kayaking is coming to Phenix City and Columbus again in the summer of 2023. More specifically, the 2023 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships are scheduled for June 27th-July 1st.
Once again, the best of the best are expected to make their way down South to brave the Chattahoochee rapids.
All three events will put an international spotlight on Phenix City and Columbus as the hosts for the worldwide competitions.
The events are also expected to attract more than 300 visitors from more than 30 countries to the area.
What is canoe freestyle?
Asking yourself what canoe freestyle actually is? In a nutshell, it’s spins, flips and turns performed on a set water feature.
There are four types of boats used in canoe freestyle. Those include a kayak, canoe decked, open canoe and squirt.
Points are earned by doing certain tricks like cartwheels and flips, for example. Additional points can be earned for going deep and staying underwater during a “mystery move.”
