Think cool industrial building with history next to a raging river. Add in handcrafted beer, and you basically have the makings for Fluid Dynamics in Phenix City.
What was once Phenix City Saw Mill will soon be Fluid Dynamics. Business partners Justin Balsam and Dee Moore were introduced to the building’s owners, the Manville family, by Phenix City’s Economic Planning Director.
The family loved the idea of the building once again housing a thriving locally-owned business. Not to mention liking the proposed product—handcrafted beer!
Balsam and Moore are both brewmasters who met in 2013 while working at Chattahoochee Brewing Company. The pair also worked at Omaha Brewing and shared the dream of one day owning their very own tap room.
Fast-forward to today, and that dream is one step closer to a reality. Work has begun on renovating the 6,000-square-foot space to convert it into a brewery. Plus, it will be a family- and pet-friendly gathering place.
Plans include community tables, couches, a horseshoe bar, rolling glass garage doors, a beer garden and plenty of green space to kick back, sip, savor and take in all the city has to offer.
Besides offering fresh brews and river views, Fluid Dynamics in Phenix City plans to have a rotating menu featuring local produce and other seasonal items. Everything will be made-in house—including additional handcrafted sodas, teas and more!

Guests will be able to walk, bike or even kayak up to Fluid Dynamics from the river side. The official address is 1116 Broad St.
The business partners are aiming for a summer opening. Which sounds like the perfect time to sit by the river, get a little sun and drink a cold one!
