new culinary facility for Columbus Tech

Fresh ventures will soon pan out for local culinary arts students. A new culinary facility for Columbus Tech is currently underway!

The new facility

City officials, campus leaders and the community at large recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new culinary facility for Columbus Tech students, faculty and staff.

The future state-of-the-art facility will be constructed in an existing part of the Patrick Hall building on the college’s campus.

Demolition began about two weeks ago. In the end, the culinary facility will include several key ingredients for success.

First of all, there will be a 16-station, top-of-the-line formal teaching kitchen. Secondly, the specialized baking kitchen is sure to be a sweet addition to the program.

Finally, the demonstration classroom and café will offer additional hands-on experiences for the students.

The expected completion date for the new culinary facility on campus is January 2024—just in “thyme” for a new year.

More about the Culinary Arts Program

The new culinary facility for Columbus Tech will better serve those students enrolled in both the culinary arts associate’s degree program and the diploma program.

The program itself is still fairly new. It was established in 2016 with a total for four students. Today there are more than 20 students participating in the program.

Students within the program will be prepared for a variety of culinary professions upon graduation. The program focuses on a healthy combination of culinary theory, nutrition, food safety, sanitation and other practical applications.

Graduates of the program will be ready to pursue careers as cooks, bakers, caterers and more.
